CodeSourcery Receives DoD SBIR Grant to Design Software for Next Generation ProcessorsGRANITE BAY, CA, USA – February 6, 2008 – CodeSourcery, Inc. announced that the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has awarded CodeSourcery a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to design multi-core extensions to Sourcery VSIPL++™, CodeSourcery's high-performance signal- and image-processing toolkit. As part of this effort, CodeSourcery will investigate optimization techniques that will allow Sourcery VSIPL++ applications to solve computationally intensive problems efficiently using homogeneous multi-core architectures, such as quad-core CPUs, and heterogeneous multi-core architectures coupling traditional CPUs with accelerators. "Sourcery VSIPL++ offers an ideal framework for multi-core computing because it already provides a uniform, portable approach to multi-processor signal- and image-processing applications," said Mark Mitchell, Chief Sourcerer of CodeSourcery. "We are thrilled that the Air Force Research Laboratory selected CodeSourcery to extend this technology to next generation multi-core processors." "CodeSourcery is working with IBM to bring Sourcery VSIPL++ to the IBM Cell Broadband Engine processor, and the early results have been outstanding," said Jules Bergmann, Director of High-Performance Computing, CodeSourcery. "We're looking forward to using what we've learned to design simple, highly efficient mechanisms for programming the multi-core CPUs of the future." CodeSourcery is a member of IBM PartnerWorld and the VSIPL Forum.
